Extracellular ATP functions as an endogenous external metabolite regulating plant cell viability.

چکیده
ATP is a vital molecule used by living organisms as a universal source of energy required to drive the cogwheels of intracellular biochemical reactions necessary for growth and development. Animal cells release ATP to the extracellular milieu, where it functions as the primary signaling cue at the epicenter of a diverse range of physiological processes. Although recent findings revealed that intact plant tissues release ATP as well, there is no clearly defined physiological function of extracellular ATP in plants. Here, we show that extracellular ATP is essential for maintaining plant cell viability. Its removal by the cell-impermeant traps glucose-hexokinase and apyrase triggered death in both cell cultures and whole plants. Competitive exclusion of extracellular ATP from its binding sites by treatment with beta,gamma-methyleneadenosine 5'-triphosphate, a nonhydrolyzable analog of ATP, also resulted in death. The death response was observed in Arabidopsis thaliana, maize (Zea mays), bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), and tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum). Significantly, we discovered that fumonisin B1 (FB1) treatment of Arabidopsis triggered the depletion of extracellular ATP that preceded cell death and that exogenous ATP rescues Arabidopsis from FB1-induced death. These observations suggest that extracellular ATP suppresses a default death pathway in plants and that some forms of pathogen-induced cell death are mediated by the depletion of extracellular ATP.

Melatonin; Growth regulator and strong antioxidant in plants
Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is an indole metabolite derived from tryptophan and synthesized in plant cells in the chloroplasts and mitochondria. Melatonin is present in all plant species, with large variations in its level depending on the plant organ or tissue, it is a molecule endowed with a multitude of functions that make it worthy to be referred to as a plant growth regulator....

Introduction: Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells capable of duplication and auto-recovery and distinction from various cells including chondrocytes, adipocytes, chondroblasts, fibroblasts, and osteoblasts. Human stem cells are always subject to local and external mechanical loads. External loads are caused by physical activity in external environment loading to infliction of st...

Background and Objective: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which is associated with extracellular accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques. AD is accompanied by mitochondrial dysfunction and energy metabolism reduction. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is an endogenous polypeptide which its beneficial effects have been demonstrated on mitochondrial function, energy m...

Cooling method was proposed to maintain the sperm quality for several days. Nevertheless, during this procedure, sperm is encountered to “cold shock”, and its quality decreases time-dependently. This study was designed to improve the in vitro sperm preservation methods. Thirty normal semen samples were examined in Shiraz, Iran, 2017. Fifteen samples were incubated at 22-27 °C and 15 samples wer...
متن کاملRole of adenosine 5'-triphosphate in regulating renal microvascular function and in hypertension.
ATP is an essential energy substrate for cellular metabolism, but it can also influence many biological processes when released into the extracellular milieu. Research has established that extracellular ATP acts as an autocrine/paracrine factor that regulates many physiological functions. Alternatively, excessive extracellular ATP levels contribute to pathophysiological processes, such as infla...
